Joe Gardner is a middle school teacher with a love for jazz music. After a successful audition at the Half Note Club, he suddenly gets into an accident that separates his soul from his body and is transported to the You Seminar, a center in which souls develop and gain passions before being transported to a newborn child. Joe must enlist help from the other souls-in-training, like 22, a soul who has spent eons in the You Seminar, in order to get back to Earth.
Is all this living really worth dying for?

For me, this is Pixar at its worst. Luring you in with cute animation and an inventive story, promising you an answer to your existential dread, and then delivering a giant pile of nothingness in the third act. I found Soul to be offensive for anyone who has ever struggled with mental illness or eating disorders. Unhappy with life and struggling to find a purpose? Just look at falling leaves and eat some pizza! And ignore the fact that capitalism and dopamine addiction are to blame.
